Project Description:
For this project, we started off on a couple field trips to help us understand what sustainable design is and where it is used. For the first field trip we went to the Twin Buttes Community. We go to see their community garden and how they are creating sustainable housing. For the second field trip we chose different groups we wanted to go with. I went up to the college and looked at their compost system, garden, and a students project about reusable water bottles. I really enjoyed this part of the project because it got me to see what we are learning applied in the real world, and how we could create a job through sustainable design.
Next, we had a guest speaker come in and talk to us about sustainable design and how he uses it to create mud houses. He walked us around the school and talked to us about the different things we could do to make our school more sustainable. We made lists of our student needs and values at the school, and from there, we came up with ideas what to create. This helped me start thinking about what I would like to do to the school, and come up with some ideas to start the next part of the project.
To me sustainable design is a environmentally friendly approach of creating something or making something better. Using reused materials or green building materials to design something that does not have a negative effect on the environment. We used sustainable design, because we created beautiful, useful products out of reused materials. We also created a greenhouse out of green materials, to grow plants that we can eat. Sustainable design is very important, because it creates productive, environmentally friendly ways of living.

Prototype Description:
During the interview process we talked to several different people to find out what their needs and values are so we could create something that everyone could enjoy. The interviews I conducted helped me arrive at the needs and values my group needed to meet, because I found out what kind of places make people feel the most welcome, and comfortable. Things like nature, colors, art and quiet spaces will make people feel most comfortable where they are. My groups plan was to make a greenhouse where students could hang out with the plants and there would be art everywhere. It would be a place to relax.
Next, during the ideation process, we looked at many different ideas we have and worked to narrow it down to one. There were many different things that I wanted to create and do. This was a time where I could sit down and come up with the one that I really wanted to create. My Idea was to create an osprey sculpture out of scrap metal to make our school more welcoming with art. I then joined a greenhouse group so I had people to share ideas with. I helped them out and they helped me out. I then split off into my own group and decided that I would create my sculpture and put it in front of the greenhouse and have a place to hold gardening tools on it.
Finally, during the prototyping process we created a plan and visual representations for what we are going to create. I first helped out the greenhouse group to prototype the greenhouse and figure out how we were going to do and what we would need to buy to get this green house at our school. I then split off and worked to prototype my osprey sculpture. I created drawing of what it would look in several different views, I created material lists, and emailed people that I could get some help from. This part was very helpful for me, because I really got to dive in and figure out what I was going to do and what it would look like.

Project Reflection:
In this project, the Habit of Heart and MindI grew the most in is perspective. I feel that I have grown the most in perspective, because I switched between several different groups throughout this project and I helped give my own perspective to them. I was first in the greenhouse group and I helped them prototype. I switched over to my own group, but was still collaborating with the greenhouse group. When we got done with the exhibition the greenhouse group split up and we each went and joined different groups. Still working on my one project I also joined the skate ramp group and helped them in the building process. I think it is important to get different perspectives from many people so you can make your design the best it can be, and more people will be able to enjoy it. I was able to give those groups that different perspective.
The 21st Century skill that I feel I could grow the most in is collaboration. I feel I need to grow in collaboration, because I need to be able to collaborate with my group to create the best product. During this project when I was with the Greenhouse group I was able to collaborate with them, but it was really hard and I wasn't really interested in it. Also some days when I would be done with something I could have used collaboration to help out another group, instead I would do art or hangout. Collaboration is really important, because you will always have to work with other people and do projects. If you can collaborate the final product will not be professional, and turn out how you have hoped it would.
During this project a time when something got hard was when my greenhouse group didn't have enough funding, and was not able to create the greenhouse. To solve this problem we joined into different groups to help them out. I ended up helping different groups decorate what they were making, because art is one of my skills. I also helped out the skate ramp group with the building process, and will be creating art on it when it is finished. It is really important to problem solve when things are not working. If you have this skill it will take you very far in life, because there will always be obstacles to overcome, or problems along the way.
